What strikes me strangest for some reason is the mellow and romantic background music.
I live in Vegas, so literally nothing surprises me anymore--including perverts who literally rape their neighbors' Volkswagens, but I can't help but wonder if the guy playing the romantic background guitar music had to do about 300 takes because he kept bursting out laughing that it was in service to
Have you ever noticed this? It's pervasive in our society, but it's an easy thing to miss.
A stupid person can very easily look smart by simply asking a question that a smart person is unable to answer, and make the smart person look stupid, even if the reason is because the question is utterly fucking ridiculous.
It's a quick way to switch roles, when you're surrounded by people who can't tell the difference.
You look so much smarter asking unanswerable questions than fumbling an appropriate answer.
Give it a try sometime--find someone smarter than you, and with a lot of people watching, ask him to explain how he's not a rapist, and watch how he flounders and looks like an idiot trying to clear himself, while you walk away with the gold.
One of the first things I noticed about Las Vegas, is that billionaires generally become billionaires through a habit of always trying to have the best of everything, and since they have considerable wealth and power to get it, they always tend to have a cascading array of really amazing things in their way and wake. They leave a trail of things that seem impossible, and they're usually working on amazing things for the future, as well as releasing something pretty amazing at any given time. Las Vegas is probably the best place in the world to see this trend, but the trend is everywhere that billionaires and their ilk are to be found.
After noticing this, the second thing that occurred to me, is that what we consider "the best of everything," is up to us. There is often general agreement on what represents the upper end of cost and quality, but it has nothing to do with our own priorities--and the price of things has nothing to do with how much you or I might value them. Indeed, there is an entire class of products in our economy called "Veblen Goods," which are defined as products whose demand increases as price increases. A $25 million Rolls Royce got to be $25 million because it is a Veblen Good. That has nothing to do with its worth though. I would never in my life get $25 million of value out of that car, so even if I had $25m, I'd never spend even a fraction of that on a vehicle. I can afford a new car just fine, but I won't buy any car at all, because I consider them obsolete for my purposes--let alone one of that price. I'm the same with $5,000 Armani suits, which will give me nothing at all I can't get from a $500 suit.
Most of worth to me is first about whether I need it at all. An F35 jet fighter might be wonderful, but I have no use for it. Most of the rest is about function of function over form--and that applies to people as well as inanimate objects, and products I buy. How good is it or he or she at what it's for? The other day, I laughed out loud to see a $1.5 million Bugatti Veyron speed off the line at a green light, and race about 1000 yards, and then screech to a halt at a red light. Was that really worth the money spent on that thing? Okay, so maybe he can go faster on the freeway at night when there are no cops and no traffic--and hit a piece of debris and do a 200mph cartwheel and explode into a seething ball of flame. Was that worth it? I'd rather spend $100 on a plane ticket, and blast off at 500mph, then also catch air at the end of the race, have a pretty lady serve me snacks and drinks, and all of it MORE exciting, more safely, without hassle or enforcement problems, and at a cost of $100 instead of $1.5 million--PLUS all the medical bills, repair bills, and legal costs--and you get to be alive afterwards. You can't have the best of things if you're dead. Speaking of race cars, did you know the average Tesla is just as fast off the line as F1 race cars? So why is F1 even a thing anymore, if they can be bested by just about any recent car on the road?
Those are my own priorities, but I feel like it's always a worthwhile conversation about what people tend to see as the best of things, be it part of general consensus, or just what they value the most individually.
So, let's get things started. What are the things and people you consider the best for what they're for? There are no strict rules here, and a lot of things and people have plenty of competition, so it doesn't have to strictly be ONE winner of all things. There's plenty of room for more than one, and it's very much worth considering BOTH what is the best for our own interests, and the best by consensus.
For example, I love a pretty woman, and at the moment, I'd say Amanda Walsh takes the gold, but there are plenty of others out there. I consider Las Vegas to be the best city in the world in terms of entertainment and accommodation, which is why I'm here--but it tanks in other categories.
I've been blessed with about a month of totally lag free discussion on my site, and I have no idea why. It's not the number of posts, because I hit a record of over 1,000 on one discussion with several others still open, and no lag at all. Now the lag is back, so I'm shutting all discussions except this new one with no posts, and hopefully that will help. I know it's a dick move, but I have to work with what I've got. If you really want a discussion reopened, let me know and we'll give it a shot.
I should also take this opportunity to create a discussion about dick and pussy, which I enjoy more than just about anything. As many of you might realize, detectives were called "dicks" for some reason, up until around the 1950s. Since they made their entire career all about discovering the bad things people did, I can't imagine how they became known as dicks, but there you have it.
Please enjoy this link to the entire series of Doyle's original Sherlock Holmes with Jeremy Brett on youtube for FREE!Also feel free to post your own pictures of cats and kittens, or any detective related--or indeed "dick related" discussion, images, or videos.
Maine Shooter Robert Card was repeatedly cornholed all winter long by a large group of men who he later went all crazy Oswald with a gun, and shot them all.
Should getting repeatedly cornholed all winter be considered a defense in a mass shooting?
How stupid could a person be, and still be able to maintain upper respiratory control?
Cunk is one of the dumbest fuckin people I've ever seen in my life, and also my favorite person in the world besides Karl Pilkington. If ever they were to meet and do a talk show, I might quite literally die of a joygasm--honestly, I'd blow out a pupil and just stroke out on the spot--and by stroke out, well... you get the idea.
Cunk somehow accesses some of the most prestigious and knowledgeable authorities in the world, and asks them some of the dumbest fuckin questions you can imagine. Fortunately, she is a master of propriety and so she somehow gets away with it.
Her stories about her friend Paul are the stuff of legends--and if you look around on my site, you'll actually see that he posts regularly here, and you're very welcome to ask him yourself about any details to the stories she tells, which may have been omitted. I've known Paul for years, and I'm not sure all the things she says are true, but I'll leave that between you and Paul to sort out between you.
At some point in my life, I'm not sure where, but at some point in my relentless attempts to educate myself and make myself smarter, I realized that I was really fucking bored, and discovered that listening to really stupid people was often more educating than listening to intelligent and well-educated people, and I often learned more from them.
How can that be? Is that a sign that I've turned out stupid despite my efforts? Well, I'll leave that to others to judge, but in my opinion, you can only learn so much by reading and listening to other people--that will get you the mass of information--but sorting it, processing it, deciding what are facts, disambiguation, and most importantly, concluding what truth arises from it all--that requires a certain amount of exposure to the big mistakes people make in thinking, and there's nobody on this planet, besides maybe Karl Pilkington, who is as massive a klutz with their brain as Cunk.
I genuinely believe that once we've spent a significant portion of our life exposing ourselves to vast amounts of information, and hopefully sources that give us sincere and straightforward information about the world (good luck with that, by the way), the bad habits of logic, reason, and just plain shitty thinking, which have unexpectedly been built up over time without our knowledge, will remain stuck to us like glue if we don't make a priority of constantly analyzing how and why people go wrongheaded and fuck up their thinking flatter than hammered shit, all while trying so hard to get it right.
In order to understand failure, we have to do discovery and analysis, just like everything else in life--but it's so much easier to do objectively, because we're able to point out all the horrors of the freakshow without any damage to our own reputation. That's a really shitty way to live with real people, but videos with people we'll never know in our lifetime give us the opportunity to do this.
Who in the world is so totally fucked in the head as to seek out the finest Shakespearean orator in England, and tell him to shut up?--or seek out one of the finest historians at Oxford, and ask him if the Romans invented anal bleaching?--or one of the finest theater directors in England, and ask if getting a potato stuck up your ass counts as a proper tragedy?
Most of this sounds stupid as shit on the face of it, but what I find most fascinating, genuinely useful, and to some degree actually genius, is the fact that in her stupidity, there is always some pattern of wrongheaded thinking that many people succumb to without realizing it--and by putting showcasing those stupidities, we can become aware of how our own thinking might have been unnoticeably wrongheaded, and make corrections ourselves, which we might never have otherwise.
Sure, we should all try to think well, but with the ego involved, how can we know we're not doing so, if we don't take notice of how it all goes wrong? The ego lies.
It is for this reason I love Cunk and Karl Pilkington. They give us so much opportunity to learn how to NOT think.
I shit you not, I just approached security and.informed them of a man standing on a building waving his dick at everyone, an his response was, "sir, have you been drinking?"
Welcome to Vegas--the only place in the world where sober people think it's normal to wave your dick in the middle of a fucking mall, drunks are the ones complaining about it, and security can't understand why that is strange.
I swear to fuck I am NEVER leaving Vegas! Hahahahaha
