Why Make Half of the News A Reminder To Watch The News We're Already Trying To Watch?

Seriously, what is the point of spending half of the time we spend watching the news reminding us to watch the news? We're already watching the news, and we can't see the news, because they won't shut up about how important it is to do what we're already trying to do, that they're not allowing us to, because instead of showing us the news, they're showing us them telling us to watch the news.

I understand why they would advertise to those not watching the news, to persuade them to come and watch the news. I get that. That makes sense. I understand why there are billboards in the world. You're not watching the news, and they'd like you to, so they're trying to get your attention to pull you in--but why the hell keep trying to persuade you once you're in.

Watching the news is no longer watching the news. It's watching them tell us to watch the news, but preventing us from watching the news by making most of the news we're watching, them telling us to watch the news.

Here's an even better example. If you went to a car vendor to buy a new car, and told the salesman, "I have $50,000 in cash right here, right now, and I want that car. I'm ready to do the transaction right now, and then handed him the money, would the salesman sit and tell you how important it is to buy the car, and never shut up about it, and just not perform the transaction because he's too busy trying to sell you the car you've already given him the money for? Of course not--that would make no sense at all.

If a few strangers came to your door and said they had a story to tell you that was very important, and as you stood there listening very carefully, instead of the telling you the story, they just kept telling you how important it is that you hear the story...

WOULD YOU TELL THEM TO FUCK OFF?

Why the hell do the news companies tell us to watch the news we're already trying to watch in stead of showing us the news? We're already watching it!

Here is the news I watch. It's an 8 hour news feed, and I like that, because I can mute it and just glance over all day and every story they tell is shown at some point--however, instead of the news, half the time is spent telling you to do what you're already doing.

Have a look--skim through this and see for yourself.

Louisiana and Mississippi Upgrade Their Flags

For those who have always been confused by the weirdass Peloquin on the state flag of Louisiana, and the one for Mississippi that celebrates their commitment to the separation of church and state right on the flag, right along with their favorite movie Steel Magnolias, you'll be as delighted as I was to discover they're changing their flags.

What do YOU think? Aren't the new ones a lot more honest?

Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss for HBO. It is an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, a series of fantasy novels by George R. R. Martin, the first of which is A Game of Thrones. The show was shot in the United Kingdom, Canada, Croatia, Iceland, Malta, Morocco, and Spain. It premiered on HBO in the United States on April 17, 2011, and concluded on May 19, 2019, with 73 episodes broadcast over eight seasons.

Set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos, Game of Thrones has a large ensemble cast and follows several story arcs throughout the course of the show. The first major arc concerns the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros through a web of political conflicts among the noble families either vying to claim the throne or fighting for independence from whoever sits on it. A second focuses on the last descendant of the realm's deposed ruling dynasty, who has been exiled to Essos and is plotting to return and reclaim the throne. The third follows the Night's Watch, a military order defending the realm against threats from beyond Westeros's northern border.

Game of Thrones attracted a record viewership on HBO and has a broad, active, and international fan base. Critics have praised the series for its acting, complex characters, story, scope, and production values, although its frequent use of nudity and violence (including sexual violence) has been subject to criticism. The final season received significant critical backlash for its reduced length and creative decisions, with many considering it a disappointing conclusion. The series received 59 Primetime Emmy Awards, the most by a drama series, including Outstanding Drama Series in 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019. Its other awards and nominations include three Hugo Awards for Best Dramatic Presentation, a Peabody Award, and five nominations for the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Drama. Many critics and publications have named the show as one of the best television series of all time.

Westworld 2016

Westworld is an American dystopian science fiction, neo-Western television series created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. Produced and aired by HBO, it is based on the 1973 film of the same name (written and directed by Michael Crichton) and, to a lesser extent, the film's 1976 sequel, Futureworld. The story begins in Westworld, a fictional, technologically advanced Wild-West-themed amusement park populated by android "hosts". The park caters to high-paying guests who may indulge their wildest fantasies within the park without fear of retaliation from the hosts, who are prevented by their programming from harming humans. Later on, in the third season, the series' setting expands to the real world, in the mid-21st century, where people's lives are driven and controlled by a powerful artificial intelligence named Rehoboam.

The Weaponization of Religion

\

Disney is dressing up babies and children as faqs now.

Do you think maybe this kind of behavior on a mass scale, of the world's largest child entertainment company being run by perverts dressing up babies and children as faqs, and trying to prevent our legislation giving parents power over strangers' talking about sex with their 4 year old kid--do you think maybe that behavior might be what the good and decent moral religious people, as opposed to those exploiting it, are trying to fight as an institution, and really they may not even be truly religious at all, but just USING religion as a weapon to try to accomplish something good with it, purely because it's the only means of doing so?

Despite my well-known hatred of religion, I sometimes wonder if maybe it's not my reason that's failed, but my imagination. I've been frequently haunted by the knowledge that perhaps religion IS as evil as I've always made it out to be, but that the conclusion that should lead to might instead be that because religion is evil, then it is all the more important that it be controlled by men of good conscience. What happens to religion when good men do nothing and ONLY those of evil intent control it? It doesn't stop being powerful just because we don't participate.

The cosmic irony is that perhaps this would make most sincerely religious people both completely fake liars--but also much more moral and respectable people. That seems like an odd contradiction, doesn't it?

This is not just an academic question, it seems that it is really starting to matter in the world, for the one simple fact that ONLY religion has the institutional power to counter that of government and corporations, and however evil it may be, the potential for calamity without it may be far worse--at least on a societal scale.

Of course, that all depends on what religion we're talking about too though, doesn't it? The Catholics aren't really looking much better than Disney right now, but I'm pretty sure it's the Protestants who have most of the control in the US anyway, and while their dedication to reason may be no better than the Catholics, perhaps their collective influence is.

So what do you think? Do you think it's morally defensible to completely fake one's religiousness and participate in religion falsely simply to weaponize it as the only institution powerful enough to counter the enormous evil in the world, and control it so those of evil intent cannot exploit it for evil purposes? --and is that perhaps what those good moral people involved in religion are already doing to keep it out of the wrong hands?

I'd say this one issue of tactically weaponizing religion, which will happen with or without men of good conscience, is probably the greatest force multiplier towards victory or defeat in the entire world. Maybe it's not about whether religion gets weaponized, but what it gets weaponized FOR. It's going to be a weapon one way or another.

See why I'm a loner and don't want to be part of the civilian world? Doing the right thing means thinking things through, and for a responsible person, there's a whole lot to think through when being part of the world, isn't there?

This is the kind of conundrum I'd expect from a control-based institution that goes back millennia--it goes deeper than the casinos winning in Las Vegas--no matter what perspective one takes on religion, the clergy always seem to end up with the upper hand.

Be it good or evil, it's inertia that runs the world.

Should Abortion Be Legal Past The 150th Trimester?

I think in the case of violent felonies it's just fine, partly because it gives closure to victims' families, but mostly because I don't give a shit about felons and it's fun watching them get the finger.

I take no moral position in matters that would force me to agree with people who start with violent felons when being protective. It's not the moral position I'm concerned about, it's the assholes I'd suddenly be one of afterwards. Instead of debating the Death Penalty, I say we debate whether the victim's families should get free popcorn in the Death Chamber while watching Mr Murder get the finger. That would be a better debate.

Whether it's the 3rd trimester or the 150th, if you really want to stop abortion altogether, just jack up concession prices. Hell, look what $10 popcorn did to our movie theaters--they've been empty for a decade now.

...and yes, I AM suggesting the moral behavior of the average American could be successfully manipulated by something that fuckin stupid.

If there were a Vegas book on it, I'd bet the farm.

Is There REALLY A Little Bit of Juan Valdez In Every Can?

I recently saw some stupid coffee ad from the 80s which featured a beanpicker from Columbia, and the first thought I had was that from what I know about Columbia, there probably IS a little bit of Juan Valdez in every can. That place is fucked up.

They say there's a little bit of Juan Valdez in every can, and what I'd like to know is, has anybody ever found an ear or piece of bone in their coffee?

Jane Austen's Mafia!

Mafia!, also known as Jane Austen's Mafia!, is a 1998 American comedy film directed by Jim Abrahams and starring Jay Mohr, Lloyd Bridges (in one of his final films), Olympia Dukakis and Christina Applegate.

The film spoofs Francis Ford Coppola's Godfather series and various other mafia films, notably Martin Scorsese's Casino (1995). It also parodies films in other genres, ranging from Forrest Gump to Il Postino and The English Patient.

Like the 1974 film The Godfather Part II, the narrative of Mafia! consists of a series of flashbacks interwoven with the main plot. Tony is the son of a prominent Mafia don, Vincenzo Armani Windbreaker Cortino. As the film opens, Tony introduces the main thread when he exits a Vegas casino and walks to his car, accompanied by a voiceover explaining his philosophy of life. When he starts the car, it explodes.
