Let's All Shit On Stephen King

 

Stephen King is one of my favorite writers ever, because his books are interesting--most of them. He's written a lot of shit, but also some of my favorite books. It's a real challenge to have discussions about him, because I totally separate books from their authors, because I've learned a lot can be gained and enjoyed that has nothing to do with the author at all. Most people have not reached that point in their development, I think--and so anytime I create a discussion about a book, everyone immediately wants to jump on the author instead, and it immediately becomes a shitsmearing feeding frenzy. Nobody can stick to the damn book.

Well, this discussion is NOT about a book. This discussion actually is about Stephen King as a person. Let's all take a massive shit on him, because he totally deserves it. I expect a horror fiction writer to be an asshole. I've accepted that fact. I can't imagine what kind of suspense writing I could expect from a totally sane, well-adjusted, and responsible human being--but it would probably be really boring. People are for what they're for. Stephen King is for writing interesting books with a lot of weird shit in them. He's not really for anything else. He's totally fucked up in the head, he's boring as hell on twitter and can't shut up about politics, and I'm pretty sure all the drugs he's taken in his life has fucked up his brain. Worse yet, he's actually gone public with certain murder stories in the news, and pretended he's a pathologist, and totally fucks it all up--and has no business doing so. He should shut the fuck up about the real world, and since he's unwilling to do so, he's also an asshole.

I once tweeted Stephen King, suggesting he write a story about a horror fiction writer who can't shut the fuck up about thoroughly boring politics on twitter, but gained such a following from morons who don't realize that they shouldn't be looking for tips on how to make the world a better place from a man who writes fucked us stories about people killing eachother--that he ran for office and became President of the United States. Then what happens?

I think that would make a great fuckin story--maybe the best he's ever written, and predictably, there was no reply.

I don't know who is stupider, the morons who look to a horror fiction writer's advice on how to improve the government, the morons who think a horror fiction writer should be more responsible, or the moron horror fiction writer who can't shut the fuck up about how to fix the real world.

If we're really being honest though, isn't it something to enjoy rather than being angry about it all? I think it's stimulating to see morons all attacking eachother because nobody can see the big picture--that they're all morons for trying to bring a horror fiction writer into the real world to fix it, for good or ill.

Anyway, that's MY opinion of Stephen King, but what's YOUR opinion? Now's your opportunity to shit all over this motherfucker with no consequences at all.

I only ask one thing--that we do not start talking shit about eachother. That's not allowed. Just because some do or don't like Stephen King's books is not a reason to attack eachother--at least not on my site. Leave that out, and we can shit all over him instead. :)
