For whatever good religion produces, it's the only thing you'll ever hear the religious talk about, so once people start acting evil, nobody expects what's coming, and the churches are filled with evil people using this fact as asshole camouflage.
I'll the first to say that religion not only serves a purpose, but is essential to the building of civilization from a barbaric paradigm. There could be no civilization without it, and there is plenty of good that people use it for that could not be made possible in any other way. Based on that view I share with the religious, it's also where we part ways, because that because the premise upon which the religious justify never talking about the evil behavior specific to religion, and I say the evil really, REALLY matters, because without recognizing and discussing that evil, one enables all manner of evil behavior, and the proof of that is everywhere.
It is frequently said that all that's necessary for evil to succeed is for good people to do nothing--and nowhere is that more true than with religion. When we look the other way with utterly monstrous behavior, we become the very instrument of the worst behaviors in society that we condemn most. Can we be truly righteous while recognizing only that evil we're instructed to by those profiting from selective enforcement?
Indeed, I feel it no exaggeration whatsoever to say that the truly religious feel an obligation to cleanse religion of evil behavior, and that begins by at least talking about it--which by extension also argues just how many of those who present as devoutly religious, are not religious at all, they're just the sheep and wolves we see in every paradigm, either exploiting or being exploited by eachother, and all under the pretext of being profoundly religious.
Of course, this almost certainly leads to immediate conflict, and of course, part of the benefit of religion is to have a place where people can learn their lessons on how the world works where there is no punishment for getting it wrong. That's actually an extremely important function of religion, and it's an excellent reason to try to take as positive a view of everything as we can.
It's not my fault the rules are set against eachother, and both tolerance and judgement are necessary for one to have an undeceived perspective.
I feel like exploring this, and it will likely lead to enormous conflict, but that's the nature of the quest for truth--if you're serious about it, you do what's necessary to understand the truth.
If there's one thing that is constantly pushed for in religion, it's the importance of the truth and the refraining from and resistance to deception.
Are we truly religious, or is it just a bunch of bullshit? If we're serious about the truth and deception, then the only path forward is to work out the truth and lies of it all--otherwise we're just enabling deception.
